What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Turkey, Ottoman Empire. A First War Army Officer's Belt Buckle

The belt buckle with a two-piece construction, in silvered bronze, the insignia illustrating an upward-facing crescent moon surmounted by a five-pointed star, unmarked, measuring 53 mm (w) x 54.8 mm (h), with a receiving clip on the reverse, the entire buckle including the integral loop attached to the buckle and the receiving loop affixed to the opposite end of the belt measuring 73 mm (w) x 55.5 mm (h). The accompanying belt with its upper consisting of multiple patterned rows consisting of fine silvered bullion wire backed by strands of white cotton threading throughout, in various patterns, the centre featuring a design of repeating strokes at angles in maroon wool, with a narrow row of maroon wool piping on either side, the maroon piping secured in place via light coral red threading, the far right end with a pentagon-shaped patch in red satin with white threading along the outer edges and incorporating a metal hook. The reverse of the belt in crimson red satin and secured in place by light coral red threading, the right end of the belt with the buckle fed through its integral loop and folded over to the reverse, with a red embroidered loop appearing at the midpoint. The right end incorporates twelve metal eyelets and when the hook from the right end is placed within one of the eyelets, it allows for length adjustment at the wearer's waist. The left end of the belt includes the receiving loop in silvered bronze, along with a thin vertical strap bearing the same design as that used on the belt itself, the belt measuring 48 mm in width x 1,015 mm in length inclusive of the portion that folds around to the reverse. It exhibits light soiling on the silvered bullion wire on the upper, along with moderate wear and fraying evident on the red satin pentagon-shaped patch on the upper and throughout on its reverse, the silvering on the buckle pieces without perfections, along with all twelve eyelets intact. Better than fine.
