Centrepiece in Gold with red enamels, backed by crossed swords in silver gilt, the aforementioned mounted to a seven-pointed silver star base, Ottoman Empire silver standard hallmarked on the cartouche and the reverse of the star just below the pin fixture, the cartouche bearing the insignia of the order, measuring 82.5 mm (w) x 81 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual stays, intact enamels, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Imperial Order of Medjidie was instituted on September 17, 1852 by Sultan 'Abdu'l-Majid Khan. It was awarded for special services to the State, either civil or military, five grades: I Class Grand Cross, II Class Grand Officer, III Class Commander, IV Class Officer and V Class Knight. The order existed between 1852 and 1922.
