(Mecidiye Nişanı) A silver seven-pointed star base, with a smaller secondary seven-pointed breast star fastened onto the obverse, with a star and crescent moon between each of the stars’ rays; the center with a raised applique, featuring a central gold medallion inscribed with “In the name of the God, the forgiver, the merciful”, surrounded by a ring of red enamels, inscribed with “You have provided protection - You are proven to be correct - 1268 - You have crossed” in golden Arabic lettering; the reverse features a center disc that is inscribed “Darphane-i Amire” for the Official Ottoman mint and marked twice with the Sha-Mark for silver purity; with a vertical pinback and a broad catch, along with two downward pointing stabilizer-pins on either side of the pinback; measuring 83.43 mm (w) x 83.44 mm (h); weighing 45.0 grams; with light patina from age; the enamels virtually untouched; in overall near mint condition. In original case of issue, red velvet lined with black velvet medal bed, wooden frame, gold embossed insignia on lid, strong hinge, fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
