Exhibiting French manufacturing qualities and characteristics, a seven point silver star composed of clusters of five faceted rays, with faceted crescent moon and star between each cluster of rays, the obverse center medallion in Gold presents the Tughra of Sultan Abdulaziz (1861-1876), surrounded by a red enamel ring with four super imposed ornate rectangles inscribed with “In the name of the God, the forgiver, the merciful”, surrounded by a ring of red enamels, inscribed with “You have provided protection - You are proven to be correct - 1268 - You have crossed” in golden Arabic lettering, the reverse features a center disc that is inscribed “Darphane-i Amire” for the Official Ottoman mint, the badge is surmounted by a Gold and red enamelled crescent moon and star, reverse of suspension presents a single hook, reverse of hook marked with indecipherable Arabic, measures 65.25 mm (w) x 96.10mm (h – inclusive of star and moon suspension and hook), weighs 47.6 grams, center medallion slightly off center, enamel wear on suspension and central medallion, dark patina, damage to connecting hook between star and suspension, light overall wear, near very fine condition. Accompanied by a correct full-length silk sash with bow, evident fading, missing ribbon ties to connect to badge, near very fine condition.
