Footnote: Cyril E. Crane was the son of Peter William Crane and Esther Crane. He was married to Emily Ada Crane of 43 Victoria Road, Clapham, London when he enlisted as a Private (S-2571) with the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Private Crane entered the French theatre on July 21, 1915, where he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. Twenty-one months later, he was Killed in Action during the Second Battle of Arras, on April 21, 1917, at the age of 22. He is buried in Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery, Gouzeaucourt, France, Grave Reference: XII. A. 18. Gouzeaucourt is a large village fifteen kilometres south west of Cambrai. Crane was posthumously awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
