Footnote: Alexander Brown was born in Cellardyke, Fifeshire on October 12, 1884 to Peter and Maggie Brown. He enlisted for the First War on September 17, 1914. He served in the Royal Navy, aboard several ships including the Vanessa, Laria, Nairn and Pembroke between 1914 and 1917. He was awarded a Distinguished Service Medal "for services in Minesweeping operations between the 1st January and 30th June 1918." He was gazetted on October 3, 1918. Brown was invalided on December 13, 1919 while aboard the Pembroke.
