Softcover, perfect-bound, the laminated front and back cover with photographs, entitled "A Guide to Military Temperance Medals (Second Edition)", by David A. Harris, the First Edition originally copyrighted by the author in 2001, this Second Edition copyrighted by him in 2006, the original First Edition produced to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Orders and Medals Research Society (OMRS) 1942-2002, printed and bound by Stewart Publishing. The book documents the medals, trophies, fobs, pins, rings, badges, etc. issued by the various Temperance Associations, in both the United Kingdom and India. Each item states the metal content, the overall description of the item, its size, maker's marks (if applicable), its date of issue, with some items highlighted with a brief history. It begins with a Foreword by the author, followed by an article entitled "Temperance and the Armed Forces" (detailing the history of the temperance movement in the Armed Forces). The book is divided into twenty chapters: 1. ATA (Army Temperance Association) and RATA (Royal Army Temperance Association) Trophies; 2. Church of England Temperance Society (CETS); 3. Independent Order of Good Templars (IOGT); 4. National Temperance League, Army and Navy (NTL); 5. Royal Naval Temperance Society (RNTS); 6. The Soldiers' Total Abstinence Association (STAA); 7. Army Temperance Association India (ATAI); 8. Army Temperance Association Home Organisation (ATAH); 9. Royal Army Temperance Association India/Home (RATA); 10. Army Badges, and Campaign and related Bars; 11. Indian Army Temperance Association (IATA); 12. ATA and RATA fobs, pins, rings and badges; 13. RATA Physical Efficiency Awards; 14. Pledges and Soldiers of the Temperance Movement; 15. Religious Temperance Medals; 16. Regimental Temperance Medals; 17. Sports and Shooting Medals; 18. Makers' marks and hallmarks; 19. Crowns; 20. Photo section. It concludes with six Appendices and a Bibliography. The book contains 128 pages, with 124 of those pages with descriptive text and complemented by multiple black and white photographs of the various medals and awards throughout, printed in black ink, plus four pages (63-66) of colour plates placed in the centre of the book, the middle pair of pages illustrating various medal ribbons, printed in four-colour inks, all on a white paper stock, measuring 184 mm (w) x 240 mm (h) x 8.5 mm (d), the book accompanied by an insert sheet listing eleven corrections to the Second Edition. It exhibits scuffing along with creasing and curling on the front cover, however, the pages within remain pristine. Better than very fine.
