Instituted 1783. An absolutely outstanding example of large breast star that represents the transition between sew-on and pin-on stars, composed of a hinged body which provided the recipient with the necessary articulation during wear, in well detailed faceted silver with eight individual hinged rays, each with a small Gold eyelet for sewing at each point, centre Gold applique presents a green enameled clover and three Gold crowns, each hand etched and enameled, with red enameled cross and blue surround presenting the Order motto Quis separabit?, Latin for "Who will separate [us]?", an allusion to the Vulgate translation of Romans 8:35, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?", lettering is also in Gold, each individually hand cut, reverse is an interesting transition award with an unusual double Gold pin fitmets and single Gold hinged lower pin, these pin assembly thereby gave the recipient the option of pinning to garment or sewing, hand engraved makers mark Rundell Bridge & Rundell, measuring 11.5 cm (w) x 12.6 cm (h), with very small hairline split to 12 o'clock ray, otherwise an superb Napoleonic period star, better than extremely fine.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
