Instituted on 14 May 1888. A gilded silver Maltese cross with white-enamelled arms, with lions between the upper left and lower right arms, with a unicorn between the lower left and upper right arms, measuring 42.16 mm (w) x 42.18 mm (h), on a loop for suspension from period original bow-tie ribbon on horizontal pinback, accompanied by the miniature, measuring 20.07 mm (w) x 22.16 mm (h).
