Instituted in 1878. An Mid 20th century partial sash made from silk, incorporating a decorative moiré pattern, with a baby blue field throughout, composed of the main sash that is bent at a 90 degree angle, the junction of which has a second piece of sash which is folded over and bears a large bow-tied ribbon resting upon it, with a brass loop sewn in place on the reverse for placement of the badge, each end of the folded over piece designed with a frayed-look, the main sash measuring 102 mm wide x 500 in length, the accompanying sash with the bow-tied ribbon measuring 165 mm wide x 185 mm in height, exhibiting slight discolouration on the ends of the sash bearing the bow-tied ribbon, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Imperial Order of the Crown of India is an order in the British honours system. The Order was established by Queen Victoria in 1878, when she became Empress of India. The Order is open only to women; no new appointments have been made after the Partition of India in 1947. The Order was limited to British princesses, wives or female relatives of Indian princes and wives or female relatives of any person who held the office of: Viceroy of India, Governor-General of India, Governor of Madras, Governor of Bombay, Governor of Bengal, Secretary of State for India and Commander-in-Chief in India.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
