A unique, bound compilation of Der Frontkamerad, the official newspaper of the Vereins Deutscher Weltkriegs-Veteranen - Frontsoldaten Bund 1914-18 (Association of German Veterans of the World War), a Chicago, Illinois-based association of First World War veterans formed by the local German diaspora, featuring issues dated from 1938 until 1940, with most of the content consisting of articles and editorials promoting the German perspective on the early stages of the Second World War prior to American entry into the conflict on the side of the Allies, in addition to interesting period advertisements for American businesses and services catering to the German diaspora and German-speaking communities, including restaurants, medical offices, travel agencies, and veterans organizations, the book itself consisting of a large and heavy card stock binding with a faux maroon leather exterior liner, the cover bearing a gilt embossed title of “FRONT-KAMERAD 1938-40”, the interior of the cover retaining a fully-intact label of “ANHALT’S BOOKSTORE AND BINDERY, CHICAGO, ILL.”, measuring 310 mm (w) x 445 mm (h), with only minor material fatigue and discolouration of the pages evident, a fascinating look at attitudes and literature of the German community abroad during the Second World War in overall near extremely fine condition.
