Multi-piece construction, in silver with red enamels, illustrating the crossed fouled anchor and cannon insignia of the IX Corps, with an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves below, framed by thirteen stars above, measuring 36 mm (w) x 36.7 mm (h), intact enamels, missing one of its thirteen stars, original ribbon suspended from a ribbon banner style hanger with pinback, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The IX Corps (Ninth Army Corps) was a corps of the Union Army during the American Civil War that distinguished itself in combat in multiple theaters: the Carolinas, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.
