Korea (Republic, South Korea): Order of Military Merit, II Class (Eulji), First Type (1950-1963) (in silver, number impressed "2741" on the reverse, measuring 43 mm (w) x 45.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, crazing evident in the red enamels on the arm at 6 o'clock, original ribbon with pinback, glue residue evident on the reverse from previously having been glued in position in the medal bed of the case, very fine. Accompanied by its 37.5 mm (w) x 10.7 mm (h) ribbon bar, in its hardshelled case of issue, wear and soiling on the exterior, soiling on the inside lid, fabric loss on the medal bed, case near fair). Also included is a privately-made Awards Lapel Display incorporating a Badge with Ribbon Bars (with the Combat Infantryman Badge in silvered bullion wire, in various textures and light blue felt, above three rows containing nine embroidered ribbon bars in multiple colors: first row: Bronze Star Medal; American Defense Service Medal with bronze star; and American Campaign Medal; second row: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze star and arrowhead; World War II Victory Medal; and Army of Occupation Medal; third row: National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Medal with bronze hourglass device; and Republic of Korea Order of Military Merit, II Class (Eulji), the badge and ribbon bars on an embroidered Army green base, white cotton mesh backer with six push pins on the reverse, measuring 112 mm (w) x 71 mm (h)); along with Two Pistol Shooting Medals (first medal with a two-piece construction, in silver with white and blue paint, engraved "JOHN K. MAC INTYRE" above "254" on the reverse, measuring 42 mm (w) x 46 mm (h), original ribbon with pinback; second medal with a two-piece construction, in bronze with white and blue paint, engraved "JOHN K. MAC INTYRE" above "214" on the reverse, measuring 32.5 mm (w) x 43.3 mm (h)).

 

Footnote: Lieutenant Colonel John Keith MacIntyre was born on April 8, 1913. He was a veteran of both the Second World War and the Korean War, serving with the United States Army. He died on September 26, 2006, at the age of 93. His wife, Alys B. MacIntyre was born on June 3, 1907 and predeceased her husband, passing away on April 6, 1988, at the age of 80. The couple are buried together in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, in Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, Section T, Site 391-D. The Republic of Korea Order of Military Merit was instituted on October 18, 1950 and awarded to military personnel for outstanding conduct during wartime or in a state of emergency, originally in four classes. This is the Eulji (2nd Class) as awarded between 1950 and 1963.
