A Second War KIA Pair to Private First Class Cornelius Collins, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, United States Army; Bronze Star: bronze, un-named, 36.8 mm (w) x 35 mm (h), original ribbon with brooch pinback; and Purple Heart: two-piece construction, bronze gilt with purple, red, white and green enamels, engraved "CORNELIUS COLLINS" on the reverse, 35 mm (w) x 43 mm (h), original ribbon with brooch pinback. Un-mounted, chipping evident in the green enamels on the wreathing, crazing in the purple enamels and scattered gilt wear throughout on the Purple Heart. Very fine. Footnote: 31135295 Private First Class Cornelius Collins, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, United States Army entered service from Massachusetts. He died on October 11, 1944 and is buried in Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium, Grave Reference: Plot F, Row 8, Grave 62. The Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium, which covers 57 acres, is the resting place of 7,992 of American military dead, most of whom lost their lives during the advance of the United States armed forces into Germany.
