In bronze gilt, obverse illustrating three palm trees on a cactus covered desert with mountains in the background, surrounded by the inscription "WISCONSIN NATIONAL GUARD / MEXICAN BORDER SERVICE", reverse illustrating a five-pointed star within an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves with the dates "1916-1917" inscribed at the base of the wreath, measuring 35 mm in diameter, edge nicks, contact marks, original ribbon with brooch pinback, near very fine.
Footnote: The Wisconsin Mexican Border Service Medal was awarded to officers and enlisted men of the National Guard who served on the Mexican Border. Wisconsin provided three infantry regiments, two cavalry troops, one battery of field artillery and a field hospital for a total contribution of 6,200 men. The medal was manufactured by the Louis Essen Company of Milwaukee.
