Recently acquired from a US collection, an extraordinary medal constructed of 14kt Gold, obverse illustrating a portrait of a Continental Army soldier with a rifle strapped to his back, with date 1775 on the base, surrounded by thirteen raised gold stars, on an enameled black background, surmounted by a drop-wing American eagle perched on the top, reverse depicting a portrait of George Washington facing right, surrounded by the inscription "SONS OF THE REVOLUTION 1883", the outsider border inscribed SEPTEMBER 23, 1990 DAVID LACEY GARRISON JR in handwriting, numbered 27219, denoting the name of the recipient, date of issue, and assigned number, measuring 29.93 mm (w) x 44.10 mm (h - inclusive eagle), weighing 20.1 grams, marked by maker’s mark of BAILEY, BANKS & BIDDLE (Philadelphia), along with hallmark denoting 14kt Gold, suspended by original ribbon with pinback, light contact, near mint condition. Accompanied by the miniature constructed of 14kt Gold, with black enamel on the obverse, measuring 12.78 mm (w) x 18.94 mm (h - inclusive of eagle), weighing 3.5 grams, hallmarked by maker’s mark of "BAILEY, BANKS & BIDDLE, along with hallmark denoting 14kt Gold, suspended by original ribbon with catch, light contact, a unique and well-preserved set in near mint condition. Footnote: Sons of the Revolution is a hereditary society which was founded in 1876 and educates the public about the American Revolution. The General Society Sons of the Revolution headquarters is a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation located in Williamsburg, Virginia.
