Württemberg, Kingdom. An Order of Frederick, I Class Knight’s Cross with Swords & Case, c.1916

(Friedrichs-Orden Ritterkreuz I. Klasse mit Schwertern und Etui). Instituted 1 January 1830 by King Wilhelm I. (1870-1918 issue). Constructed of gilded silver with enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms, with radiant sun rays joining the quadrants, both the obverse and reverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing raised gilt monograms of King Friedrich, the twelve o’clock arm with dual integral loop connecting to a crossed sword suspension and a period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 36.46 mm (w) x 39.58 mm (h), weighing 23.9 grams, accompanied by its period original presentation case, constructed of a card stock frame with a faux blue leather exterior, the lid bearing a gilt inscription of “FR. O. 3A M. S.”, the interior with a padded maroon satin lid liner and depressed and slotted maroon velvet medal bed, unmarked, measuring 60 mm (w) x 96 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), with some material fatigue evident to the case, in overall extremely fine condition.
