WWI 5th Canadian Railway Troops Cap Badge CEF - Browning brass, maker marked "G & S. Co 112 REGENT St W." (Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, London) on the reverse, 37.2 mm x 42 mm, surface rust on the reverse, extremely fine.Footnote: In the latter part of 1916, it was agreed that Canada would furnish five battalions of construction workers to be known as the Canadian Railway Troops. In March 1917, it was decided to increase this number to ten battalions. By June, all the battalions were at work in France. The 3rd Labour Battalion was re-designated as the 5th Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops, on June 15, 1917. It was disbanded on November 1, 1920.
