Yemen. An Ornate Jambiya
The short curved steel blade is magnetic and measures 200 mm in length, with a raised fuller on both sides, the saifani hilt has a T-shaped grip, in either ivory or horn (possibly translucent yellow rhinoceros horn), with multiple nails placed along the blackened upper, the obverse with two silvered brass disks placed on the grip with a stamped coat-of-arms, one at the top of the grip, the other placed at the opposite end end near the blade, the jambiya measuring 290 mm in length overall. The accompanying sheath has an extremely ornate pebbled and beaded patterned silver casement, the centre of which features two oval stones, one in light blue, the other in black, the stones flanked by five silver loops on the left side and three silver loops on the right side, with a matching silver tip also in ornate pebbled and beaded patterned silver, with two rows consisting of a series of repeating overlapping rings flanking five round or horizontal-shaped insignia running away from the tip, leather-wrapped between the two silver entities and on the reverse of the casement, the leather wrapped in multiple rows of thin black leather bands on the obverse, the sheath itself with a wooden core. It exhibits separation in one of the thin leather bands on the sheath, along with light wear overall from active use. Very fine.
