In metal alloy, the floor of the ashtray with a pebbled design, illustrating a two-engine aircraft along the width of the front, its nose projecting forward and its tail resting in the centre of the ashtray, the tips of the aircraft touching qualification badges at either end, the left end with a design incorporating the top half of the Royal Army Air Service Observer's and Navigator's Qualification Badge, the right end with a design incorporating the top half of the Royal Army Air Service Pilot Badge, a raised lip linking the two badges along the rear edge of the ashtray, the raised lip with two recessed places with which to rest a cigarette, measuring 152 mm (w) x 100 mm (h) x 18 mm (d), exhibiting cigarette burns, paint dabs and contact marks on the obverse, along with extensive scratches on the reverse, fine.
