Wisam al-Kawkab al-Durri al-Zanzibari. Instituted in 1865. 1918-1964 Issue. Hardshelled, wooden frame, red thatched-look leatherette covering, Zanzibar coat-of-arms bearing the date "1861" (the establishment of the Sultanate) on the lid, maker marked "ELKINGTON & Co. Ltd. COURT JEWELLERS, 22.REGENT STREET, S.W." on the white satin lined inside lid, the lining exhibiting the impression of the once present Breast Star of the Order, raised platform in white brushed felt with recessed medal beds for the Sash Badge and the Breast Star, dual hinged on the left side, push release on the right side, light wear evident on the red leatherette covering on the exterior, highlight on the lid where a label was one affixed, light soiling present on the white satin lining on the inside lid and on the brushed white felt on the raised platform, measuring 153 mm in width x 310 mm in length x 60 mm in height. Very fine.

Footnote: The Order was instituted by Sultan Sayyid Majid bin Said Al-Busaid in 1865, amended by Sultan Barghash bin Said Al-Busaid on December 22, 1875, and amended again by Sultan Sayyid Sir Khalifa II bin Harub Al-Said on August 5, 1918, when it became an award in five classes for meritorious service: First Class (limited to 40 recipients), Second Class (limited to 60 recipients), Third Class (limited to 80 recipients), Fourth Class (limited to 90 recipients), and Fifth Class (limited to 100 recipients). The Order ceased to be awarded in 1964. (C:44)
